I took the bait.. The Unofficial Age of Conan Strategy Guide by Killer Guides.

Yep, I took the bait. I saw one of their ads on a network site and was curious what the guides were about. As with most purchasable game related ebooks the description read well, something everyone would want to have. Now having been burned by ebooks in the past I was a bit bitter and overly critical of ebooks in general. A guild mate told me that this was actually a pretty good ebook so it got me thinking about it. I did want a more well rounded knowledge of the game beyond what the puny manual had to offer me. Well after a couple days of fighting my inner skeptic I gave in and grabbed a copy of the The Unofficial Age of Conan Strategy Guide by Killer Guides.

As I scrolled through the first page or two I thought to myself that this was at least a "pretty" guide since they did a nice job with full color pages and styling, definitely beats some of those super duper black and white word docs I have seen for sale as ebooks. Not to embrace my inner geek but the styling of the ebooks was very similar to those newer edition D&D books:  fancy borders, Material seems well organized, chapters, sections, etc. Okay so at this point I am still bitter but I give these guys credit for at least making the product look good.

A half hour or so later I found myself actively reading through the pages and finding useful information. The writers did the expected coverage of the basics that any game guide would have to incorporate A bit redundant for a current player but I can see the value there for a new player trying to get a good head start on understanding the game.

After the basics it picks up on Tortage Island and gives you enough info to help progress through those first 20 levels. Afterwards you are handed a list of zones in order of level progression that you will want to level in. This I found most interesting since I had pretty much tapped out my current leveling area and was unsure where to head to next.

Assuming that we are not all mindless robots that are just grinding for the sake of grinding, there is more information here for those wanting to do other things in game. General information and some tactics by class for pvp, harvesting guides and info as well as crafting, info about cities and keeps, feats per class, and other such info that one might find themselves in need of during game play.

I'll bring this to a close now since I do not want to sound like some kind of infomercial for Killer Gaming Guides. I wanted to share this with all of those bitter folks out there that have been jaded in the past by less than scrupulous ebook sellers. This one is actually worth it.

Now there are minor items that I might gripe about, like the lack of spell info but that  will likely be addressed in the near future.  How is that you might wonder, well that is to me the best part about this ebook, the updates they send out, basically they update the guide and you get the new version free to download. A "living" document is a pretty cool way to add value to your ebook.

The Unofficial Age of Conan Strategy Guide by Killer Guides, I approve hehe.
